Endeavor Adapted & Inclusive Recreation

  • Basketball
    Saturdays June 6, 13, 20, 27 (10am-11am)
    Players of all ages and abilities are encouraged to come out for basketball at the Gainesville Health & Fitness Centeron Newberry Road in Gainesville.
    As always, volunteer “buddies” are welcome and encouraged to come out and support Endeavor players.

  • Paint and Play Dates
    Wednesdays June 10th, 17th, and 24th, July 1st and 8 (6pm to 7:30pm)
    Participants will paint (pictures, not the building) and play at the NW Boys & Girls Club of Alachua County 2700 NW 51st Street, Gainesville, FL 32606
    Painters and players of ALL ages and abilities are invited!

Harn Museum’s Family Day: Rediscovering Slobodkina: A Pioneer of American Abstraction

June 20, 2009 (1pm-4pm)
Join us for a tour of Rediscovering Slobodkina: A Pioneer of American Abstraction. Afterward, children will have the opportunity to create their own collage inspired by the work on display. At 2:30PM there will be a special performance in the gallery by storyteller Ann Marie Mulhearn Sayer, a friend of the artist.

Regal Entertainment Group’s Free Family Film Festival

Nine weeks of movies for kids and parents. Selected G & PG movies start at 10AM each Tuesday and Wednesday during the festival. First-come, first-served seating is limited to theatre capacity. FREE Workshop about Building Social Relationships!

Building Social Relationships: A Systematic Approach to Teaching Social Interaction Skills to Children and Adolescents on the Autism Spectrum
Tuesday, July 14, 2009, 9am – 4pm
Gainesville, FL

This workshop will provide an overview of a social skill instructional model developed by Dr. Bellini. The workshop integrates research on social-emotional functioning with effective strategies for teaching social skills to children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The five-step model provides a systematic and comprehensive framework to guide parents and practitioners in the development and implementation of social skills programming.

Training Objectives
• Increase knowledge of social and emotional functioning
• Increase awareness of the relationship between social skill deficits and social anxiety
• Develop skills necessary to assess social functioning
• Increase awareness of skill acquisition versus performance deficits
• Develop skills necessary to implement social skills strategies
• Increase awareness of available social skill strategies
